Are there Wentworths in your family tree?

All Wentworth descendants are cordially invited to Wentworth Day, an open house at Rollinsford’s historic Colonel Paul Wentworth House to learn about their family’s contributions to New Hampshire history. Admission is free and light refreshments will be served.

We will share such Wentworth stories as:

• How Elder William Wentworth defended a Dover garrison house during the Cochecho raid of 1689.
• The wheelings and dealings of of royal Governor Benning Wentworth.
• The role of patriot Colonel John Wentworth, Speaker of the colonial Assembly and second owner of the Wentworth House, in the momentous events of revolutionary-era New Hampshire. (Read more about his contributions.)

Guests at Wentworth Day will also have an opportunity to visit New Hampshire 1776: A Granite State Perspective, an exhibit of objects, images, and documents related to the Revolutionary War in New Hampshire, on view at the Wentworth House through mid-October.

About the Wentworths

The Wentworths were a wealthy and influential family in colonial New Hampshire. They counted among their number merchants, land owners, royal governors, and Patriot leaders, and the Wentworth name lives on in businesses, schools, hotels, place names, and historic homes throughout New Hampshire. Multitudes of their descendants still live in the area today.
