Guided Tours of the Wentworth House Dig Site

June 3 - June 14

Guided archaeology tours at the Wentworth House

TOUR TIMES:
Tuesday through Saturday, June 3-7 and June 10-14 at 2:30pm

Tour the dig site with us!

After months of planning and preparation, and with the generous permission of the current property owner, an archaeological dig of the original site will take place from June 3 through June 14!

For those who are interested in learning about the dig and about historical archaeology in general, ARCH is offering guided tours of the dig site.

LOCATION: We will meet at the Wentworth House (47 Water Street, Rollinsford) and go from there.
COST: Admission is free for ARCH members and $5 for non-members. No advance registration is required.

This is the only time to view the dig site. The site is located on private property and it is only through the generosity of the current owners that this dig is even possible.

About the dig:

Conducted in cooperation with Strawbery Banke Museum, the dig will be the first archaeological excavation of a site associated with enslavement in northern New England. As such, it presents a unique opportunity to learn more about the lives of the inhabitants of the Wentworth House, both enslaved and free.

If you’d like to learn more about this project…

Archaeologists Emerson Baker and Alix Martin will present preliminary findings from the dig at the ARCH Annual Meeting on Thursday, June 19 at 6 pm at the Colonel Paul Wentworth House. All ARCH members new and old are encouraged to attend and find out what the dig has revealed thus far. The presentation will be preceded by a short business meeting, and followed by an ice cream social.
