About Playing with Plying

Open to all who have some plying experience. Plying is an important part of yarn design! These yarns will hold up well to abrasion and can be easy to knit or weave with. Spinners spend a lot of time and effort creating lovely singles, but often quickly ply them just hoping for the best! Implementing a few simple techniques will help you consistently ply beautiful yarns.

Plying is also the foundation skill for making novelty yarns. In this class we will work with singles to make 2-ply and 3-ply yarns as well as cabled, chain ply (Navajo ply), and if time permits, uneven plies. We will go step by step through the techniques of creating these fun and useful yarns!

Equipment required for the class: spinning wheel in good working order; and 4 bobbins OR 1 bobbin on your wheel + 3 or more weaving bobbins**(I will have extra bobbins and a winder with me), a lazy kate and a niddy noddy.

**Please bring two bobbins each with at least one ounce of singles yarn of a medium diameter using similar fiber (contrasting colors would be great), spun at least 24 hours before class. Dyed Corriedale or Polworth top would be a great choice.

Any questions? Ask away! treeoflife@metrocast.net. If you are interested in purchasing 2 ounces of fiber please contact mona.lapierre@gmail.com
