Dye Day: Indigo with Overdye

September 19 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Dye Day: Indigo with Overdye

An educational event with the Southeast New Hampshire Spinning Guild

Join the Southeast New Hampshire Spinning Guild at the Wentworth House for a day of play with dye! In their last educational event of the year, the Guild will be using three natural dyes (red, yellow and orange) and overdyeing with indigo to showcase the varieties of colors available using natural dyes.

The day will begin with mordanting the skeins at 10:30, so we can start dyeing by noon. Participants should bring a spinning wheel, spindle or knitting for the ‘down time’ during preparation and subsequent dyeing. as well as a chair and a lunch.

DATE: Saturday, September 19
TIME: 10 am – 4 pm
REGISTER: Email mona.lapierre@gmail.com

Participants will need to bring six one-ounce skeins of protein fibers (wool, silk, alpaca or mohair, alone or blended – no superwash please). These will need to be clean and scoured prior to your arrival – dye pots require clean, mordanted skeins to make sure the colors are bright, and colorfast. For indigo, both protein fibers and cellulose fibers (cotton, linen, hemp, ramie and bamboo) can be dyed without any prior preparation (other than scouring and wetting).

This will be a great introduction for beginners to experience the simplicity of a basic blue and turning it to another color! Come be part of the magic – no prior experience needed. For more information or to register, email mona.lapierre@gmail.com.
