Flax Day at the Wentworth House: A Rain or Shine Event

Come have fun processing locally grown flax using heritage tools!

Join the UNH History Department Flax Files for a hands-on history event. Explore how New Hampshire families grew and processed flax in the 18th- and 19th-centuries and try your skill at braking, scutching, and combing. Peruse examples of linen clothing, domestic goods, and more, as we informally discuss issues of sustainability, fast fashion, circular design models, gendered workspaces, and seasonal celebrations.

OPEN SPIN: 10 am – 4 pm

We’ll also have open spin all day!

Bring your wheels, drop spindles, lunch, and other fibers to spin for the day. Free admission! Donations gratefully accepted.
