Less well-known than his cousins, the royal governors John and Benning Wentworth, Colonel John Wentworth of old Somersworth (and the second owner of the Colonel Paul Wentworth House) was a leader in pre-revolutionary New Hampshire. As tensions grew between the colonies and the British government, he actively supported the Patriot cause. His life and work are worthy of our attention as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence.
